Connecticut Farewell Parties

With the new year, brings my resolution to catch the blog up to date.  So we are starting back in July (ouch) right before our move from Connecticut to Maryland.  It actually is quite sad and painful for me to look back through these pictures.  It really makes me miss our friends and neighbors back there.

We had a number of farewells to say before leaving.  First, the Roses had us over for a yummy dinner.  Miles loved their daughters, but it was Jenn's friendship that was the most important to me.  She really was there for me whenever I needed someone during our two years there.  When you live far away from family that is really special.  She's an amazing, giving, loyal friend.

Then there's a picture of me in the prayer shawl that St. Mark's Episcopal Church made for us and gave to us on our last Sunday.  They also had a cake, since a couple of families were leaving.  They were such a safe haven for us in 2014, we will always remember the kind people that welcomed us at St. Mark's.

And finally, there was the neighborhood farewell party.  Nancy threw such a wonderful get together on her beautiful back porch with yummy food and all of our neighbors!  It was so nice that everyone came.  Diane organized a special poster with everyone's pictures and a note to us.  It is hanging up in our Maryland home and a daily reminder of the irreplaceable people we left behind.  Our neighbors were our adoptive family in Connecticut.  Everyday I would spend hours outside with the boys, and as people came and went we would get to say hi and chat.  We saw everyone every day and everyone was so friendly.  They spoiled our boys with juice boxes, 'nancy crackers,' borrowed toys, and presents.  We had the perfect area to play outside and a pool right behind our house. Richard and I would just sit on the front steps and watch Miles play on the rocks or ride his bike.  And Miles had wonderful friends to play with anytime.  He still misses and mentions Gabe and Julia all of the time.  Nancy gave a sweet speech at the party about how when we arrived the dynamic of the neighborhood changed.  That made us feel so good to know they felt the same as we did about them.

There was no trying not to cry- I just outright cried when you left! Miss you dear friend.
