At the hospital

Since I delivered after midnight, I had Tuesday and Wednesday night in the hospital and left Thursday (compared to giving birth on Sunday and being discharged Monday with Miles).  On Tuesday morning my parents brought Miles to come meet baby James.  We were so excited for him to meet his little brother.  He was a little shy and nervous but definitely enjoyed holding him and was very sweet.  Since getting home he has been the best big brother.  My parents brought flowers and spent a few hours with us while we had our lunch.  Richard took Miles around the hospital exploring for a little bit.  They also came to visit on Wednesday for a few hours.  Miles was very good for my parents while they watched him at home.  He was very comfortable with them and happy, even though he did miss us and was excited to come visit us in the hospital.  I am so grateful that my parents were able to take care of him.  It was wonderful not having to worry about him while we were at the hospital.

I was so happy with my choice to go to a smaller hospital.  I was a little nervous about my decision at first, because I felt very safe at Michigan when I delivered and it was one of the best.  However, the fact that my doctor was very experienced made me feel I was in safe hands.  It turned out to be a wonderful experience.  The nurses were so attentive, and I never felt I was bothering them or asking too much.  They offered both nights to take James for a few hours so I could sleep.  I basically ate, slept and breastfed for those few days.  It was amazing to be so well rested, compared with Miles delivery.  I wasn't woken up at all hours of the night and the hospital atmosphere was rather quiet and relaxing.  I cherished having a few days with James all to ourselves and no distractions.

Miles was very attached to Richard.  I think my hospital gown and bed freaked him out.

He was very shy and quiet about James, but he wanted to hold him and was very sweet.

And here are some pictures my parents took while they were watching Miles while we were at the hospital.

Yes, he still insists on sleeping on the floor...
