In August we realized we never visited the zoo, and it was definitely on my list of things I wanted to do this summer. We got a recommendation from our neighbors to go to the Southwick Zoo and we are so glad we went there! It is a family owned zoo (reminded me of the movie We Bought a Zoo), and like most zoos around here you actually have to pay to get in (totally spoiled by the national zoo in DC which is free). However, parking is free and they allow you to bring in food. They have lots of picnic tables and SHADE. Did I say shade? Yes, that was one of our favorite parts. They have the cool animals, like lions, giraffes, tigers, etc. However, it is not too big- the perfect size for Miles. Oh and they have a playground and kids rides. We will definitely be going back. Miles especially wanted to see the tigers and giraffes. Oh and he was a little whiny (not getting good sleep that week), however he perked up after lunch and when we went on the rides :)
The tigers!
Baby lions
I love the giraffes!
Eating our picnic lunch
I asked Richard to take a picture of me to show I was there too :)
Look at all of those trees- shade!
Miles loved the cars
More rides- he really wanted to ride the planes/rockets, but he wasn't tall enough. Maybe next time!

It's been so fun to see all of your updates from your summer fun! This zoo looks perfect for younger kids! Looks like Miles had a great time.
