In October, we entered Miles in his first cyclocross race. They usually have a Lil' Belgians race for the little kids, which is what he did. Danny is a serious cyclist and would have been competing with his team at the DCCX race in DC, but his foot was broken. However, he came to show us the ropes, cheer on Miles, and cheer his own teammates who were competing in the top categories. We even got to park in his team's parking spot, which was very convenient!
In the cyclocross race, they go over grass and have obstacles, which Miles had never done before. I was wondering how he would do and wasn't sure what to expect, so we went with the intention to just have fun. However, I think Miles has my competitive genes. (For example, when we watch the movie the Santa Clause and he sees the kids playing soccer, his first question is always if they are winning). His goal was definitely to win the race, and he just kept talking about how he was going to win. It was cute to see how big of a deal it was to him, as we were getting ready, even though it was just this little for fun race. You can see in the video that as soon as the race started, his competitiveness came out and he was determined to win. He did way better during the actual race than on any of the practice runs.
I'm glad it worked out and he did win, because he was very excited and proud. He keeps asking us to take him to another race, which I'm sure we will! He will probably need a bigger bike by then, too.
Here are the pictures and 2 videos all the way at the bottom (watch them in HD if possible)
