Let me first say I am not a hippie.
I surprised myself when I first decided to do cloth diapers. But cloth diapering has come a long way. It's a lot easier...and a lot cuter! There are a ton of cloth diapering brands, but I mainly decided on using Gdiapers because they have both a cloth insert and a biodegradable disposable insert (which you can flush down the toilet).
COMPARISON TO DISPOSABLE DIAPERS
PROS:
- They don't take 500 years to decompose.
- You will save money if you use cloth inserts (disposable inserts cost approximately 21 cents so they are about the same as disposable diapers)
- No poopy diapers stinking up the house.
- Not worried about getting chemical burns, which recently happened to some babies from using Pampers.
- They're cute.
CONS:
- You have to wash them.
- When changing a diaper you have a few extra steps in the process. You have to put in the cloth or disposable insert and you have to flush the dirty insert (if using the disposable insert).
- You have to be more careful with the fit when you put them on.
- If you use the cloth insert you have to change the diaper more often.
- You will have to touch some poop.
OVERALL:
Gdiapers are not for everyone, but they work for me. They take more effort, but I don't mind touching poop or doing a little extra laundry. I mostly use the cloth inserts, except for at night or when out running errands, so I will be saving money...Plus, you could say I'm saving the planet :)

awesome, Sarah! Miles is so cute in his little gpants! The girls finally moved up to medium and I love them! They get fewer rashes when they wear the cloths! I'm glad you like them!
I am so interested in the cloth diapers but everyone thinks I am crazy. Keep me posted on how you like them because I really am thinking I want to do it! I want the honest truth from someone who uses modern cloth diapers :)
You know already that I like them too. But what I REALLY like are those cute little frog legs coming out of the Gdiaper!!! Such a cute picture!! xo
My mom used cloth diapers, and she's pretty much the opposite of hippie, lol! You should always do what you think is best for Miles. You are his mother and no one else is... always remember that! You just keep doing what you think is best for Miles, who cares what anyone else thinks. ;) You're doing awesome Sarah, you really are.
