Buffalo, Palmyra, and Kirtland

While Emmy was still in town, we traveled to Buffalo, New York to stay with her brother's family.  It was really great visiting them, plus only a half hour away is Palmyra, New York.  Palmyra has a lot of church history sites and the Hill Cumorah Pagaent.  The Hill Cumorah Pagaent is an outdoor theatrical performance that tells the story of the Book of Mormon.  It's an amazing production!  Then on our way home we decided to stop by the Kirtland Temple.  It was the first temple built by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  It is no longer in operation, but we went for a tour which was really interesting.

We had a great trip, despite the Canadian Border Patrol threatening to shoot Richard because he didn't see a stop sign.  Yeah, that was kinda crazy.  Miles was a little exhausted from the late nights, but he did really well.  The weather was beautiful and it was a lot of fun.

Emmy sat in the back with Miles

Richard drove the whole way

Outside of Joseph Smith's family's log home

The sacred grove, where Joseph Smith at age 14 knelt and prayed and saw God and Jesus Christ.  Walking through the sacred grove was probably my favorite part of the trip.  You can just tell it is a really special place, and it is easy to picture Joseph going there to pray.

Miles was so happy as we walked around.  He was squealing to himself and loving it!

We stayed with Emmy's brother John, his wife Jan, and their 4 kids.
They were wonderful hosts!
